Elaine Garrido, the person behind AlmSens
Hello, I’m ElaineThe person behind AlmSens

“A journey back to your body, your senses and your essence.”

From an early age, I was fascinated by the human body, the healing power of nature and the connection between movement and health. My curiosity has led me across different countries, cultures and disciplines, always with the same purpose: helping people feel better in their bodies and in their everyday lives.

17+Years’ experience

MScGerontology

My name is Elaine Garrido, a healthcare professional with more than 17 years’ experience supporting people on their journey towards recovery, well-being and physical and emotional balance.

I am an integrative physiotherapist. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy in Chile in 2010; it was later recognised in Spain, where I am a member of the Professional College of Physiotherapists. I also hold an MSc in Gerontology. I now live in the Netherlands, where I am completing the language and professional recognition process required to practise physiotherapy here.

For more than 10 years I have studied and practised traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine, through intensive training in India and Spain. I am a certified Yoga and Pilates instructor, a specialist in Ayurvedic massage therapy, and I have extensive experience in holistic aromatherapy and meditation.

My approach brings body and mind together, with a focus on the ongoing effects of chronic stress, pain, healthy and pathological aging, and on restoring function and autonomy — always through mindful, personalised care.

Today I welcome you in Amsterdam and in Made (North Brabant): calm, caring spaces where you can feel supported and at ease.

→ Some of my services are also available online from anywhere in the world, in English and Spanish.

My mission

“To guide people beyond symptom relief, helping them reconnect with their bodies and discover their own capacity to heal.”

I believe true well-being comes from understanding, movement and self-awareness. By sharing the knowledge and practices of integrative physiotherapy, yoga, meditation, Pilates, Ayurvedic massage and aromatherapy, I empower people to take an active role in their health and live with greater balance, resilience and vitality.

The story behind the logo

Rooted in Patagonia

The tree that inspired the AlmSens logo grows in my native country, Chile, on a piece of land where Patagonia begins. This land holds a very special place in my heart. Every time I return, I am reminded of the importance of staying rooted, connected to nature and true to myself.

To me, this tree represents my roots, inner strength, self-care and the journey back to my true essence. My hope is that it also inspires others to reconnect with themselves and begin their own journey towards balance, well-being and a deeper connection with who they truly are.

PhilosophyReconnection

AlmSens reflects a path that began long before it had a name. It was born from my roots, my vocation for caring for people’s health and years of study and experience — but also from my curiosity, my travels and everything I have learned from other people and cultures. All of this has taught me to look at health in a broader, more conscious way: listening to the body, connecting with our senses and with nature, taking care of ourselves and allowing ourselves to return, again and again, to what makes us feel balanced and connected with our own essence.

My approach

Traditional practices, approached with knowledge and respect for the human body

At AlmSens Wellness, massage is a personalised experience of care, relaxation and connection with the body. My approach is rooted in Ayurvedic massage and enriched by years of studying and working with the human body, movement and well-being. I believe that traditional practices and a deeper understanding of anatomy and physiology can coexist, creating a thoughtful, personalised and respectful approach to bodywork.

Every person is different — and our bodies may need something different from one day to the next. Rather than following the same routine for everyone, I adapt each session to you: how you are feeling, your preferences and what you would like to focus on that day.

Depending on your needs and preferences, your treatment may combine:

As a Holistic Aromatherapy specialist, I may also incorporate carefully selected essential oils when appropriate. Drawing on both holistic aromatherapy and Ayurvedic principles, the oils are chosen with consideration for your individual needs, preferences and the intention of the session, adding another sensory dimension to your experience.

Good to know: please arrive 5–10 minutes before your appointment so you can enjoy your full treatment time. Cancellations or changes made less than 24 hours before your appointment are charged at the full session price.

The treatments in depth

Ayurvedic Abhyanga massage

Where Ayurvedic tradition meets a deeper understanding of the human body.

Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic full-body massage using warm oil and rhythmic, flowing movements. Rooted in Ayurveda, it has traditionally been practised as part of dinacharya — the Ayurvedic approach to daily self-care and maintaining well-being. In the scientific literature, Abhyanga is described as the application of oil, generally warm, accompanied by massage of the body.

Touch is also one of the fundamental ways in which we experience the world around us. From a physiological perspective, the skin is a complex sensory organ, with specialised receptors that allow us to perceive touch, pressure, temperature and other stimuli. This connection between touch, body and senses is particularly meaningful to my approach at AlmSens.

My way of practising Ayurvedic massage brings together the techniques and principles I studied in India and Spain with my extensive professional background and knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and movement. Anatomical knowledge is especially important in bodywork — something that physio-anatomical reviews of Abhyanga also emphasise.

Rather than performing exactly the same sequence for everyone, I adapt the rhythm, pressure, areas of focus and oils to each person, their preferences and how they are feeling that day. The intention is to respect the traditional roots of Ayurveda while working with careful attention to the anatomy of the body, the quality of touch and each person’s individual experience.

The ritual of warm oil

Oil holds a special place within Ayurveda. The Sanskrit word Sneha is particularly beautiful: it can mean both “oil” and “affection”, reflecting the nurturing qualities traditionally associated with Abhyanga. Ayurvedic literature associates Sneha and Abhyanga with feelings of warmth, comfort and stability.

During the massage, warm oil is applied to the body through flowing strokes and more focused movements around different areas and joints. The combination of warmth, touch, rhythm and aroma creates a rich sensory experience — an invitation to slow down, become more aware of your body and reconnect with yourself.

Drawing on my training in both Ayurveda and Holistic Aromatherapy, I may also incorporate carefully selected essential oils when appropriate, taking into consideration your preferences and individual needs, together with Ayurvedic principles and the intention of the session.

Holistic aromatherapy

Aroma is another way in which we experience our environment through the senses. As a Holistic Aromatherapy specialist, I integrate my knowledge of essential oils with my understanding of Ayurveda when appropriate.

Essential oils are selected thoughtfully, taking into consideration your preferences, the intention of your treatment and Ayurvedic principles. For me, aromatherapy is not simply about making the room smell pleasant: it is part of the sensory experience of AlmSens — bringing together aroma, touch, warmth and awareness in a treatment created around you.
